Home Secretary Priti Patel visits Penistone and Stocksbridge to hear concerns about rural crime
We have some beautiful areas in Penistone and Stocksbridge, but over recent months, an increasing number of people living in our most rural areas have reported that they've been victims of crime.
A few months ago, I was visited by Home Secretary Priti Patel and we hosted a ‘round table’ in Midhopestones to hear from residents about their experiences of crime. And more recently I’ve met with Chief Superintendent Stuart Barton and our local neighbourhood police officer, I will be working with them to address this issue and I’ll update you over the coming months.
In the meantime, our local police have emphasised that it’s important that all incidents of crime are reported, even if they seem small, or if they happened some time ago. This helps the police to build up a picture of local crime, any trends that may emerge, and so decisions about how resources should be allocated.
To report a crime to the police please call 101, or 999 in an emergency or alternatively at the following: https://www.reportingcrime.uk/
My office is also collating reports of incidents so if you, or someone you know, has been a victim of crime and you, or they, are willing to share details of the incident, please email me at [email protected] using ‘Rural Crime Incident’ as the subject. I will be providing an anonymised report to local police so that they can understand the impact on local people and consider strategies to stop it.
