£500,000 for Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre
This morning I went to the Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre (SCLC) to deliver the fantastic news that the Government is providing £500,000 towards the continued transformation of the Oxley Park and Leisure Centre site.
This is a great result and is testament to the hard work of the Leisure Centre Board and their team.
As Co-Chair of the Town Deal Board for Stocksbridge, and local MP, I could not be more pleased for the local community. This funding will provide a boost for the town and will make a big difference in helping us to realise our exciting future plans.
Specifically the SCLC funding will be used to transform the site into a combined indoor and outdoor leisure, activity and social space for the people of Stocksbridge and surrounding areas with the ambition of improving the health and wellbeing of community participants.
- Create an outdoor seating and toddler play area for the new Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre Café linking in to the park
- Create a new children’s playground linked with the leisure centre and café.
- Provide inclusive outdoor infrastructure including access routes, landscaping, additional bike and car parking provision to ensure access for all
This investment comes in advance of the up to £25 million of funding that will be awarded to the town once the Town Deal Board's full plans have been submitted to the Government in January 2021.
The Towns Fund is designed to provide the opportunity to drive economic growth and improve prospects for our local communities, which will be vital as the country begins to recover from the impact of COVID-19.
