New Stocksbridge, Deepcar, Bolsterstone bus service approved
After many many months and a lot of hard work I am thrilled that the Town Deal Board has awarded the hopper bus service to South Pennine Community Transport.
The Stocksbridge, Deepcar, Bolsterstone bus service should be up and running in a few months' time and I'm looking forward to being one of their first passengers.
As Co-Chair of the Stocksbridge Town Deal Board and project lead for the hopper buses, this is a project that's been close to my heart. The Mayor of South Yorkshire is responsible for planning and funding our public transport network to meet the needs of everyone in the county. But, it sometimes feels as though communities like Penistone, Stocksbridge and their surrounding villages are neglected by a public transport system that over-prioritises the cities and major towns.
These new buses are a key part of the Stocksbridge Town Deal, a £24.1m government investment to improve our high street, transport connections and sports facilities, and were something asked for by local residents. To keep our buses running people need to use them and so running a smaller hopper style service should mean the route can be a huge success.
I want to pay tribute to everyone involved in making this happen - a long time coming but well worth the effort.
