Matt Hancock thanks staff at The Valley Medical Centre Stocksbridge
I was privileged to be able to welcome my colleague, Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health, to Stocksbridge in late April. Matt visited The Valley Medical Centre to talk to and thank staff for their contribution to the phenomenal success of the coronavirus vaccine rollout.
It’s been fantastic to meet such a dedicated primary care team from the Valley Medical Centre, Deepcar and Oughtibridge surgeries who have played such a vital role in the vaccination programme. I had my first jab yesterday and encourage everyone to book in as soon as they are eligible. Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health
With over 11,000 doses delivered here in the Upper Don Valley, over 1.1 million vaccine doses now administered in South Yorkshire, and over 50 million across the UK, we are making significant progress in the fight against the coronavirus. Alongside the incredible work of our NHS in delivering this success I paid tribute to the involvement of our scientists, logistics experts, volunteers but also the millions of people who have stepped up to have their vaccines. The UK has one of the highest vaccine uptakes in the whole world and over 15 million people have now received their second dose, that's around 29% of the adult population.
Across Penistone, Stocksbridge, Chapeltown and Dodworth, our amazing Primary Care teams have worked so hard over the last few months, ensuring essential services are still being delivered alongside the huge effort to offer vaccinations to as many people as possible.
