*Fighting crime in South Yorkshire*
I've been out and about with David Chinchen, former Chief Superintendent speaking to residents and businesses in Stubbin about the impact of crime on local residents.
We're hearing that residents are particularly concerned about anti-social behaviour as it has such a demoralising impact on local communities.
David and I have had regular meetings with the local police to that we better understand and can support their efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour, to make our streets, transport, homes and shops safer. So we're pleased to see the Government meet its manifesto commitment by delivering over 20,000 additional police officers across the country - giving us the highest number on record. Here in South Yorkshire we now have over 500 more officers compared to 2019.
South Yorkshire Police itself has welcomed the arrival of more than 500 new police officers over the last three years, which means the Government has met its 2019 manifesto pledge of recruiting 20,000 new officers nationwide - and its already having an impact locally.
I'll soon be talking to the Policing Minister to raise our local concerns but also to give feedback on the additional funding our area has received to provide a trailblazing hotspot policing pilot explicitly to help deal with anti-social behaviour in our patch.
I'll keep pushing for better police visibility and more appropriate solutions to the issues raised with us on the doorstep, to make our area an even better place to live and work.
