Miriam Cates MP - proud to serve Penistone and Stocksbridge
Today I was honoured to be able to make my maiden speech as the MP for the wonderful constituency of Penistone and Stocksbridge.
In my speech, amongst other things, I talk about growing up in Sheffield and how my role as a parish councillor made me see that elected representatives can make a difference for the people they serve.
Penistone and Stocksbridge is a truly remarkable constituency, with stunning scenery, moorland and reservoirs. We have beautiful rural villages like Bolsterstone, Wortley and Cawthorne and the historic market town of Penistone, which received its market charter in 1290. The town of Stocksbridge, with its industrious history of steel manufacture, and our many other wonderful communities, like Dodworth, Pogmoor, Chapeltown, Ecclesfield, High Green, Grenoside and Burncross, and numerous rural villages, each with their own unique character.
I consider it a profound privilege that I represent a community that I call home.
