Hollin Busk Development Rejected
I welcome the decision by the Sheffield Planning Committee to refuse outline permission for up to 85 houses at Hollin Busk.
This afternoon, 14 July, my statement of objection was presented to the committee on behalf of myself and local residents, in collaboration with the Friends of Hollin Busk group. I was pleased to join with hundreds of local people and a wide range of community groups including, the Upper Don Action Group, Deepcar and Stocksbridge Walking group, Stocksbridge Community forum as we joined together to object to this unwelcome development.
With no Local Plan in place, there is no community consent to building on land that forms an important part of the rural fringe and green corridor that separates and retains the distinctiveness of the communities of Stocksbridge, Deepcar and Bolsterstone.
More than 1,000 homes have already been approved for development in the Upper Don Valley, most on brownfield or infill sites and it is these types of site that should be prioritised over greenfield sites such as Hollin Busk.
It's time for Sheffield to develop and adopt a Local Plan - so that we can ensure applications such as this can never again be considered without the consent of local communities.
I am pleased that this application has been rejected, and I congratulate the members of the community and the Friends of Hollin Busk who I have enjoyed working alongside to secure this outcome.

The area is already experiencing significant housing development and there seems to be no recognition of the impact this additional proposal will have on infrastructure and the sustainability of population growth locally.
In the absence of a Local Plan, existing policies and protections should be upheld and as the land is still safeguarded under existing provisions, I believe this application should not even be considered. Planning portal submission 5th June
